Q. Where is your kelong located?
A. We are located on a small island off the southern coast of Batam which is about 2hr 30mins away from Singapore.
Q. What are the ferry timings to and from Harbour Front Centre?
A. The standard departure from Harbour Front Centre is 9:50am (Singapore time). The return trip from Batam Centre is at 4:00pm (Batam Time; an hr behind SG time)
Q. When do I need to be at the ferry terminals?
A. You are required to be at the ferry terminals 1hr before your ferry departs.
Q. How do I get to the kelong?
A. Your journey will begin at Batam Centre:
- Upon arrival, our staff/driver will receive you and direct you to board a land transport that will take you to the domestic ferry terminal in Batam to board the speedboat.
- The speedboat will then transport you to BMK (approx. 30 mins)
- Arrival at BMK at approx.11.00am (Batam time)
Q. How do I make a confirmed reservation?
A. Our bookings are based on a first come first served basis upon receipt of your confirmation deposit.
Q. What is the capacity of your kelong?
A. We have 9 rooms with a total of 44 beds and can accommodate corporate groups of up to 50 people.
Q. When are your busy periods?
A. Most of our guests come on the long weekends and extended holiday seasons (CNY, Christmas, New Year’s) as well as during the Singapore school holidays. For the above dates, it is advisable to book early as many of our regular guests would book 2 to 6 months ahead.
Q. Do we have to share rooms with other groups?
A. You will not have to share a room with guests from another group .
Q. How many people can fit in each room?
A. We have 3 types of rooms – 5 rooms with 4 single beds; 2 rooms with 2 singles and 1 double decker bed and 2 family rooms with 4 double decker beds (8 people).
Single/ twin/ triple sharing rooming can be arranged subject to availability. Supplementary charges apply as our package rates are based on quad sharing.
Q. Are your rooms air-conditioned?
A. No, they are not air-conditioned. As all our rooms are built above the water they have natural sea breeze and a ceiling fan.
Q. Is there electricity and water at the kelong?
A. Electricity is available 24/7. Each room is also equipped with at least two Singapore style 13A 3pin outlets.
Q. Where are the bathrooms? Do you provide toiletries?
A. Each room has its own ensuite bathroom with a sitting WC, sink and shower. There are 2 ensuite bathrooms in the two family rooms.
Please bring your own towels and toiletries. Toilet paper is provided. Bedsheets, blankets and pillows are also provided.
Q. Is there cell phone reception at the kelong? What about Wi-Fi?
A. There is mobile roaming reception at the kelong. We do not provide a free Wi-Fi network as we want to provide an unplugged environment. You may want to consider purchasing a prepaid data roaming plan from Singtel or Starhub if you need to have internet access whilst at our kelong.

Q. Do I need a Visa to visit Indonesia?
A. As of 21 March 2016 there are now 169 countries that receive a free 30 day Indonesian tourist visa upon arrival. This includes Australia.

Q. What type of meals do you provide? Halal Meals?
A. Our meals are served buffet style, (5 dishes for lunch and dinner, excluding rice and fruit).
- Breakfast: Nasi Lemak/Fried Noodles/Porridge (One of these each day)
- Lunches: Seafood, chicken, egg, bean curd, Vegetables and catch of the day etc. served with rice and fruits.
- Tea Breaks: Goreng Pisang/ Green Bean Soup (One of these each day)
- Dinners: As above (one of which is a BBQ seafood Dinner) served with rice and fruits.
- Special Diet: Our kitchen is not halal-certified, but we served pork free dishes. We have regular Malay guests and our menu is pork and lard free.
Q. Are drinks provided?
A. Free flow of coffee, tea, hot water is available. Your guests may want to bring their own hot beverages (Milo etc). There’s a hot water air pot at the dining area for your convenience. Treated spring water is available throughout the day and night.
You may also purchase canned beer or Coke and young coconuts.
Q. What time is check in? Checkout?
A. Check in time is at 1pm after your lunch. If your rooms are available, you may check in earlier. Check out time (from the room) is at 10am and departure from the kelong is at 1pm after lunch.
Q. Is there a nearby medical facility for emergencies?
A. Should there be any case of medical emergency, you will be evacuated to Batam Medical Centre and our staff will accompany you there.
Q. Is piracy a problem at the kelong?
A. There have never been any piracy incidents around this area for the past 12 year since we set up the kelong. The Indonesian Navy conducts daily patrols of the channel between Batam and Bintan islands where we are located.
Q. What is the weather like at the kelong?
A. The weather in Batam is very similar to Singapore. Between October and April tropical rainfalls alternate with sunny days.
Q. Are there mosquitos at the kelong?
A. There’s no mosquitoes on the kelong, however, do bring insect repellent if you plan to go ashore or on a hike or take a walk by the beach.
Q. What are the available activities at the kelong?
A. We have a number of free activities at the kelong:
- A mahjong set (table and tiles), board games, and books are available for you to use but no karaoke set.
- You may snorkel around the kelong, but there are not many live coral reefs around the kelong and the water clarity varies from day to day. Please bring your own snorkelling equipment.
- You can swim and also dive off our kelong but we do not have a lifeguard on duty. We have life vests and life rings at the kelong. Our guests enjoy taking dips around the kelong. If you have any swimming floatation devices for your children, please bring them along too.
- You can fish off our kelong using simple hand lines & rods. We also provide free bait (pieces of cuttlefish). You may also bring your own fishing equipment too.
- You can go beachcombing during low tides. (There are dogs on the shore though, but they don’t usually bother you).
- You can also bring your own kites to fly as it is often very windy at the kelong
Q. Is your kelong child friendly?
A. We do have many families with children staying at the kelong throughout the year. Just traveling to and staying at the kelong is an experience in itself for a child. Here’s the experience of a family that was there in May 2017.

Q. Is smoking allowed?
A. Smoking is NOT allowed on our kelong structure as it is made primarily of wood and atap roofing. Smoking is however allowed on the shore.
